About Dr. Hahn

Psychotherapy can be a powerfully transformative, healing, and growth-promoting process. At the core of any effective therapy, no matter the modality or technique, is a trusting and positive relationship with your therapist. Below is a bit of information about me to help you know if I might be a good fit for you. You can also call me at 706-207-1201 to schedule a free 10-minute phone consultation to assess goodness-of-fit.

My APPROACH

My approach to therapy is integrative, but firmly rooted in interpersonal and humanistic models. The “interpersonal”component means I believe that relationships are central to our experiences of being human and are similarly important to attend to in therapy. The “humanistic” component means that I believe there are certain core ingredients necessary to a therapy relationship in order for change to occur, including empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. My approach is “integrative” because I draw techniques and interventions from a variety of treatment models and approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion Focused Therapy. The decision to utilize a certain intervention or technique is informed by research on best practices, by my own experience and training with specific populations or presenting concerns, and/or through collaborative conversations with clients about what approach best suits his or her needs.

In the therapy room, I anticipate that you would experience me as warm, caring, and nonjudgmental. While I might not always understand every aspect of your experience, you can expect that I have a genuine desire for you to feel seen, heard, and deeply known in my office. If I get something wrong, I want to know about it because you deserve to be fully understood. If you are looking for a “blank slate” therapist, I would not be a particularly good fit for you, as I bring my authentic self into therapy. While it is ethically critical that as your therapist, I maintain appropriate boundaries (such as not engaging in social relationships with clients), over time you will be almost guaranteed to pick up on certain of my characteristics or reactions or may even learn a bit of trivia about me that will make me seem more like a “real person” to you. I believe that connecting authentically, human to human, has the potential to deepen the work of therapy. Oh, and laughter is important, too, and it is welcomed in abundance in my office!
